Every year, the AI Index program at Stanford University produces an annual report that measures global progress in Artificial Intelligence. The 2021 report includes data from more than 60 sources categorized into 8 chapters: Research & Development, Technical Performance, The Economy, AI Education, Ethical Challenges, Diversity in AI, AI Policy and National Strategies, and Healthcare & COVID.
As a sub-division of Stanford’s Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence Lab (HAI), the AI Index was in need of a full-fledged website to help elevate the AI Index brand as a reputable measurement tool of AI progress that could begin to stand apart from the work being done by the Lab itself. But as the deadline for the 2021 report loomed, the launch of a companion website to unveil the report required a design direction and fast.
After meeting with the AI Index’s Research Manager to discuss his vision for the site and potential hurdles (we had an aggressive four-week timeline from design to development) I set about putting together visual designs and vector-based style guides that would enable their developers to move swiftly from development to launch.
The final design provides a clean and approachable platform to navigate the 2021 annual report and a great launchpad for the AI Index to continue elevating and differentiating its brand among the Lab’s other prestigious research projects.
